Remember a Charity Week 2024
Did you know that 9th – 15th September is Remember a Charity Week?
This annual event is designed to celebrate and promote the impact and importance of gifts in Wills. The national marketing campaign is run by Remember a Charity and brings together around 200 charities, including The Mare and Foal Sanctuary, to raise awareness of charitable giving through legacies, something which only around 6% of people do currently. You’ll see a lot of chat about legacies or gifts in Wills across the week from all of the charitable partners, and we are really excited that The Mare and Foal Sanctuary will be a part of it for the first time this year.
What is a ‘legacy’?
There’s lots of mystery around the term ‘legacy’ and, for many people, it creates quite a daunting image of leaving vast sums of money behind after you’ve passed away, something which is quite unrealistic for so many of us. The truth is that a legacy specified in your Will can be absolutely any sum of money, however large or small, and it’s not even limited to just cash. You can leave a percentage of your estate, a specific amount, or even a particular item. It may be a treasured possession, a piece of jewellery, furniture, or even a piece of art. If there is something which holds value to you and which you would like to make sure is looked after when you’re gone, it can be considered a legacy. Whatever you choose, it’s your personal way of ensuring that your legacy supports something you’re passionate about.
What if I don’t have much to give?
You don’t have to have lots of money to make a Will or leave a legacy in that Will. Wills are for everyone and, however much money or property you may have, a Will is an important document to make sure these are left to the people you want to have them, and not divided up according to law.
We understand that family will, and should, always come first, but even a small gift to the Mare and Foal Sanctuary would make a difference. Even 1% of the value of your estate could help provide sanctuary for horses and ponies who have been neglected or abused.
The lasting impact of a gift in your Will
The Mare and Foal Sanctuary works tirelessly to offer lifelong, life-changing, loving care and support to horses and ponies in need. For us, a gift left in a Will is not just about financial support—it’s about giving these beautiful animals a second chance at life. By leaving a gift in your Will, you become part of something much bigger. You’re contributing to a future where vulnerable horses and ponies can find safety, care, and love.
Where do I start?
Being a part of a campaign like Remember a Charity Week is our opportunity to let you know some of the many ways we can help.
Firstly, we understand that a lack of time and money are some of the key barriers to creating a Will. To do our bit and help to overcome these barriers, we are proud to work alongside Make a Will Online to be able to offer a completely FREE Will-writing service, helping you to join the many thousands of people who remember a charity in their Will each year.
The perception of writing a Will is that it is long and complicated. Our step-by-step platform will break down these perceptions and take you through the process with ease, and it won’t cost you a single penny to create your Will. There is NEVER any obligation to leave a gift to The Mare and Foal Sanctuary, or any other charity, as part of our free Will-writing service. However, if you do choose to leave a gift to The Mare and Foal Sanctuary, the only thing you will need is our charity name and our Registered Charity Number (1141831). This will ensure that any gift you choose to leave us will get to us safely.
Gifts in Wills account for more than 50% of our income each year and we are so grateful to every person who chooses to remember us. Every penny genuinely makes a difference and offering this free Will-writing service is our way of making the process easier and saying thank you for choosing The Mare and Foal Sanctuary to receive a gift, no matter the amount.
This #RememberACharityWeek, why not choose to do something special?
